When Val Jensen gets dumped for her decision to stay a virgin until marriage, the nasty breakup goes viral on YouTube, making her the latest internet sensation.

After days of ridicule from her peers, Val starts a school-wide campaign to rally support for her cause. She meant to make a statement, but she never dreamed the entire nation would get caught up in the controversy.

As if becoming nationally recognized as “Virgin Val” isn’t enough, Val’s already hectic life starts to spin wildly out of control when bad boy Kyle Hamilton, lead singer for the hit rock band Tralse, decides to take her abstinence as a personal challenge.

How can a girl stay true to herself when this year’s Sexiest Man Alive is doing everything in his power to win her over?

My Thoughts

V for Virgin is a fun and a great laugh out loud book for YA lovers.

V for Virgin features Valarie, or Virgin Val. When her boyfriend breaks up with her because she does not want to have sex with her she starts an entire movement of abstinence. Val is snarky and is a low-crap tolerance heroine. I love that she has a lot of spunk and is fun. However, there were times I was irked by her naiveness. I felt she was judgmental and blind, sometimes to the point of being a hypocrite. But, I liked that she grew throughout the book and stayed true to her values.

Kyle is the rockstar guy who is hot and pretty much has it all. I like that he is a jerk and has a lot of growing up to do. There is an underlying niceness to him, but I like that Val stands up to himself. There were times that I did not like Kyle but in the next book I know that he will grow on me.

The entire abstinence and theme of sex in this book was very well done. I like how Oram took a topic that is usually sensitive and threw it right in front of her face. I also like how she defines that sex is not all that is there to a relationship. There are much more important things.

A few pet peeves in the book I had was some of the side characters and the dragging of it. I felt that there was way too much drama. It felt like a high school typical drama YA novel like the DUFF. Val’s best friend was also kind of annoying. I felt that she was judgmental and was kind of backstabbing. And there were some lame guys here and there.

Overall, I really did like the entire novel. It was a really good read. I recommend people give it a shot. However, it depends on your POV and some may not really enjoy this book.
