Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.

Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.

Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.

Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.

(New Adult Contemporary)*Mature Content** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.

My Thoughts:

The Secret of Ella and Micha is a beautiful, emotional novel that shows the power of true love. There is emotion, heat, drama, angst, and most importantly healing.

Ella and Micha haven’t had the easiest childhoods. They have parents who have neglected them, and loads of problems. Ella especially has had the most emotional damage. And because of a tragic night, something turns on. She just flees.

I love the entire premise of the story. Ella and Micha are such a beautiful couple. They complement each other and there for each other. Ella is such a strong heroine. The horror and guilt she caries in incomprehensible. Sorensen does a great job showing the damage Ella’s childhood has on her and her struggle to heal. I love the moments when the real Ella is revealed. She is such a cool person. She loves cars, takes no crap, and is kind of intimidating. Micha Scott is such a sweet hero. I love that he is so caring. He has unwavering faith in Ella is amazing. He cares so much for her. He will drop anything. Micha is now my new favorite book boyfriend. And, he is a musician. I love that even though he does hook up here and there, he is not a jerk. Ella is the one for him and he does manage to show her.

The overall romance in the novel is amazing. I love the chemistry between Ella and Micha. Most importantly, I love that there is real emotion. They take their relationship slowly and start the slow progression from friends to lovers. There is a beautiful slow burn. You can see the tension and literally feel it. When they act on it, it is amazing. I also like how the topic of sex is touched in their relationship. Ella knows when to take things to the next step. I like that both characters know what a “real” relationship is.

I love the side characters in this novel. Ella and Micha’s friends are really nice people. I love that Ethan, Micha’s friend, and Lila, Ella’s friend, have some chemistry. There are a lot of things hinting for them. Also, they are guenienly nice people. Sorensen does a great job also showing the dark side of richness and how people don’t fit the stereotype.

The overall plot pace is pretty good. My only issue is that I felt that things were rushed up too much at the end. I felt that the climax and plot twists were coupled into too few pages.

In summary, this is a beautiful romance. I definitely recommend you read it. It is a unique new adult novel where difficult topics are touched upon extremely nicely. This book receives 5 stars.
