Summary:

In book one you meet our delicious Alpha Unit leader Aiden McKenzie. When the topic of grandchildren comes up during a weekly sewing circle the matriarchs of the founding families seek out the witch Elder to scry to see if their sons have mates. They are shocked to discover that many of their sons’ mates are out in the world and are human!

Fearing that their future human daughters-in-law will end up dead before being claimed and providing them with grandchildren to spoil, they convince their own mates that something must be done. After gathering all of the warriors together in a fake award ceremony the witch Elder casts a spell to pull the men’s mates to them, whether they want it or not.

Aiden is adamant that he doesn’t need a mate and that they would only get in the way, little does he realize Fate is sending him his mate first! He meets his destined mate Meryn Evans and things go downhill from there. In the first twenty four hours she kicks, screams and knocks her bear shifting mate unconscious. They eventually discover that life before finding each other may have been good, but life afterwards is perfect, even if it involves super soaker battles and accidentally discharging hand grenades.

My Thoughts:

What a unique book! When I started reading this book, I did not expect to laugh, and laugh, and laugh so much. This book is so much more than a paranormal romance. It has humor, a sweet hero, and a sassy, feisty heroine.

The characters in My Commander were awesome. I love Aiden. Aiden is a big and burly totally Alpha Bear Shifter. However, he is totally the opposite. He is sweet and extremely caring. I love Aiden’s devotion to Meryn. He cares for her and loves her who she is. His personality might have been over bearing at times, but you can clearly see that it came from good intentions. Another thing I love about Aiden is his devotion to his army. His devotion is something that is highlighted throughout the book and Alder does a great job using his devotion and commitment as a positive trait. Many authors make devotion and a hero’s love for the heroine sometimes into an unhealthy obsession.

Meryn is the most unique heroine I have ever read. I love her sass and feistiness. Her sharp temper is complimented with her sharp intelligence. Overall, she is a sharp heroine and is a great person to be around. She can be hot tempered at times, but she is a big sweet heart. Her sweetness is amazing. I also love when she calls Aiden “My Big Teddy Bear.” Aww. I almost swooned. Meryn also has other great personality traits. The fact that she is so caring towards other people and fearless to standup makes her admirable instead of a pushover.

The romance between Aiden and Meryn is extremely sweet. I love that fact that things did not get extremely hot and steamy in the beginning. I like that they took sometime to know each other before they did the deed. One of the main reason I was initially hesitant in picking up this book is because the romance is all about the sex. Instead, the romance is all about the emotional connection. Sex is the cake on the icing.

The overall plot in this book is great. I love the pace things played out. The world building was great. I love the organization of the different Commanding Units and incorporation of Elders into the leadership. The world complemented the romance and did not drive the book. Alder did a great job developing the entire supernatural world in her book.

There weren’t many issues I found with this book. I would highly recommend anyone who is a fan of funny, sweet, and paranormal romance should read this book. This book receives 5 stars without doubt.
